What is Energy and How it Relates to You and Your Experiences

Have you ever heard the phrase everything is made of energy and you ask yourself whatever does that mean? Does this mean your phone, your computer, your car, your pet, your parents, your kids, the trees and the buildings you see are all made of energy?? Well, according to science that is exactly what it means!

The phrase "everything is made of energy" refers to a concept rooted in both physics and certain philosophical and spiritual perspectives.

In physics, particularly in the context of Einstein's famous equation E=mc2 : matter and energy are considered interchangeable. This equation shows that a small amount of mass can be converted into a large amount of energy, and vice versa. Thus, at a fundamental level, matter (everything that has mass) can be viewed as a form of energy. It is a common understanding in the scientific community that energy is not created, nor can it be destroyed, it just is. In essence, the phrase means that energy in the universe is a constant quantity, it cannot be created from nothing, nor can it vanish into nothingness. It can only be transferred, transformed, or converted from one form to another form.

In Quantum Physics, atoms are the basic building blocks of any material form we know of and they are made up of Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. Protons and Neutrons are made of even smaller particles which make up atoms (quarks), and all this is pulled together with a strong nuclear force within each atom. Atoms which form matter are constantly moving and vibrating in different frequencies which determine the shape, and texture of the physical items we experience through our senses. These movements are considered excitations of underlying fields that are seen as energy fields, meaning that what we perceive as a solid matter, at its core, is fluctuations in energy fields. Imagine using sophisticated technology and sensors to go in deep at the molecular level and observe the atomic interaction of a piece of wood such as pencil or a chair. You will see a field of atomic and subatomic energy that is constantly moving and vibrating.

In spirituality, we interpret the idea that "everything is made of energy" as a way to express the interconnectedness of all things. The belief is that everything in the universe, from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies, is vibrating at different frequencies, and this vibration is a form of energy. It gives scientific backing to the notion that since we are made of energy, therefore this energy (called soul or spirit) is what is governing these bodies we operate in and it is the life force within us. You may have heard "we have never been born, therefore we can never die!" This spiritual statement has a deep root in the scientific notion of energy and matter and what I described above.

In spirituality, metaphysics, and quantum physics belief systems energy is seen as the basic and fundamental substance that manifests physical reality. It is here that thoughts, emotions, and consciousness itself are considered forms of energy which can influence the physical world. In a sense all emotions, thoughts, and matter are energy forms coming together to shape our physical reality.

So in a nut shell and in everyday language, saying "everything is made of energy" is used to express the idea that at the most basic level, the universe is composed of dynamic forces rather than static, unchanging objects. It’s a way to convey that what we perceive as solid and separate is actually interconnected and constantly in motion. The phrase underscores a view of reality where energy is the fundamental building block of everything, whether it is interpreted through the lens of science, philosophy, or spirituality.  It allows us to change our perspective and as a result of this shift, be able to expand our consciousness to experience life at a broader and elevated level.

So let's embrace the fact that you are an eternal, energetic, and spiritual being having a human experience. Love every human emotion while choosing the ones you would like to experience more of and focusing your energy on love, gratitude, authenticity, compassion and joy.
